Let the family eat and move on with everyone’s day. Saw this first-hand in college. Me (white F), my roommate (Latina F), and our friend (black M) tried to go to a club downtown. Mind you, this was in August in the South; nobody was wearing long pants anywhere at that time of year. But, whatever. All of us were white, and we had 3 guys (and like 5 girls because you have to have the right ratio to Heart Sunflower Postal Worker Diamond Shirt get in, which is also entirely stupid but that’s a separate issue). Guess what all 3 (white) guys had on? That’s right- denim shorts and polos! The SAME FUCKING BOUNCER as before let them in without a word. “Absolutely no athletic attire (it’s a popular country bar with pop music that allows jeans, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats though).

I scored tickets to see a premiere on the red carpet. As i was about to enter, the bouncer wouldn’t let me on because my nice dress shoes had no laces. Super bummed, but this Canadian dude was coming out of an earlier premiere and heard what was going on. He had some brown dress shoes, and even though they didn’t match my black tux, the bouncer said it would be acceptable. Dude traded me his shoes right there. Still can’t believe someone would do that. Still appreciating him many years later, wherever he is.
I think what I hate most aside from the pretty blatant racism, is them trying to force a dress code onto a 10(?) year old kid that just wants some lunch and now is embarrassed as fuck because his mom is calling that manager on his bullshit. Like, come on. Maybe if he was walking around in a diaper and no shirt or something else extreme. But tennis shoes, some gym shorts and a t-shirt (since when are generic cotton t-shirts athletic wear?). I happened to one of my friends when we were in Dallas Texas. We all were going into a bar and our friend who is black gets stopped by the doorman and gets denied because “No Jordans or Nikes”.

My friend pointed out everyone he just let in has Nikes on the says “Yea, I said no Jordans”. This was a sports bar too, we all left and went to the bar across the street. I was a bouncer/doorman for a few years when I was in college. It was a pretty popular bar/club. This type of stuff happens constantly. When there would be events sometimes the GM and owners would sit by a security camera and over the radio tell us at the front who we could and could not let in and it was always based on something stupid like his hat is backward.
